Cowboy Frank has an eye for plants, colour and form

|Inspiration, Photography, Sculpture

Frank, a.k.a Franktele1’s profile picture on Flickr is of a man in a cowboy hat. Something suggests that it’s probably not him. But it is hard to know for sure because he’s kept personal information to an absolute minimum: all we know is he’s male, ‘super ugly’ and joined Flickr in 2009. What he does share is the good stuff – his wonderful photostream. When Plant Curator wrote to Frank asking for permission to use some of his photographs here, he responded, letter for letter, with “no proplem!”. Maintaining both brevity and mystery while now sounding slightly spanish. So what’s so great about his stream? Well it has a little of everything – humour, pink and green, arresting succulents, pretty flowers, kitsch christmas objects – in addition to numerous plant/sculpture interactions. Some photographers work really hard to get a collection of photos together, a series if you like, that is greater than the sum of its parts. Frank has done it brilliantly, and you sense that he did it all without even trying, and maybe all in his back yard.
