Fashioning plants across the boards

|Culture, Fashion, Inspiration

We are using Pinterest to feature an array of plant-inspired content. Boards include: Spring/Summer 2014 Graphic Floral Trends, Spring/Summer 2014 Romantic Floral Trends,  Floral Accessories and Spring/Summer 2014 Menswear. Over the coming months we’ll be developing more boards for different plant art areas. Fashion collections have been put together by Lady Bonasera who writes:

“Plant-inspired designs were rampant last year in the Spring/Summer 2014 catwalk collections that we are now starting to see in our shops and magazine pages. They featured massively in both the ready-to-wear and couture shows, once again showing the enduring appeal of cultivated and wild plant life to fashion. Looks have run the botanical gamut from the graphic florals offered up by Hermes, Marni and Christopher Kane to the more ethereal and romantic blooms of Nina Ricci, Oscar de la Renta and Dolce & Gabanna. There is evidence of much hybridisation going on with several species intertwined in print-on-print action and digital, vintage and chinoiserie floral prints showing how the natural can be reworked and reinterpreted. The floral trend was seen all over the menswear collections too, with Gucci and 3.1 Philip Lim showing how the stylish man can work a double floral look with clashing prints on top and bottom. Floral trends have invariably filtered down to the high street, with Topshop, River Island and Gap, amongst others, offering their own interpretation of the hothouse and the whimsical. And for those who prefer not be festooned in blooms, a key way of working the trend is a floral accessory, where carrying a flower-covered clutch or donning some floral Oxfords, allow you to carry a bit of the bucolic with you, even in the middle of the city.”
