Cactus Pots by Ben Sanders

|Art & Design, Painting

Ben Sanders is an artist living and working in LA – you can view his super paintings and drawings on his website bensandersstudio.com. As a sideline he sells painted plant pots on Instagram aided by cacti and other succulent species. He posts a picture of each one on the photo-sharing site and the first person to email him gets the pot. Plant Curator is rather taken with these characterful, colourful things made all the more charming by his window dressing. Where pots are aggrandised by lively patterned backdrops and an array of sonic objects that range from the surreal to the banal. Each one with its own ingenious little set-up. Plant Curator asked Ben why cacti and this is what he said…

“I use cacti because I like them and I live in California, where they are everywhere. There is a huge cactus emporium near my studio. They are also fairly low maintenance and they mostly retain the shape and size they had when I first planted them. I always have a handful lying around, and I pick the cactus that I feel completes the personality of the face on the pot. It’s kind of like giving them a hairdo after they have been fully painted, and I don’t want the hairdo to change too much. They are great for people who put them inside a window or at their desk at work or something.”

Follow Ben on Instagram to get the chance of a pot! But we think he needs a full-blown shop soon.
