Vegetal and the city

April 22, 2015|Photography

Claudio Troncoso Rojas is a Chilean photographer currently based in Santiago. He has shot many great series which explore the interactions between plants and human constructed landscapes or artefacts. A series of photographs gives the wider vision of the artist, and Rojas’ website displays this collective power well. Here we display a selection of images from different series, as every plant also offers a story of its own. Photography like this renounces commonly captured floral beauty to instead build truer pictures of how we live every day with plants by focusing on those that often reside, unseen, in the background. It is in these places that we can find more unusual representations, but equally beautiful.

Through my work I have established a research based on identifying the tensions in the city between natural-vegetal and “the built” taking this as the manifestation of the will of mankind to change its environment in physical and cultural terms.
