Preserving the beauty in decay

October 16, 2014|Inspiration, Photography

Polish born, Australia based photographic artist Renata Buziak experiments with plants, turning the results into beautifully radiant images. In her own words she forms ‘alliances between a variety of plants and photographic emulsions’ which she calls Biochromes. Somehow she enables the chemical and biological reactions of decaying plants to imprint onto photographic materials creating what we see below. TreeLine series, 2012, focuses on three native eastern Australian trees valued for, among other things, their medicinal properties: Eucalyptus tereticornis (blue gum), Corymbia gummifera (bloodwood), and Eucalyptus resinifera (red mahogany). Buziak’s is looking for different ways of seeing plants and by identifying the species, pays tribute to their own unique, composition informing properties.
